Last week when Dad and I went into Claypool's to get picture frames, I asked the young lady at the counter if they were local because I went to school with a Claypool. She responded in the affirmative and then rattled off a list of names, but when I said, "Nope, none of those--Fred," she said, "Oh, that's my dad!"
I burst out laughing and said, "Oh my gawd, I AM OLDER THAN DIRT!" to which she delightfully responded, "But you don't look old enough to have gone to school with my dad!" I somehow resisted the urge to hug her. :)
Though speaking of old school ties, I'm still getting over my disappointment from the other week, when Dad being deafer 'n a post resulted in me missing the funeral of his longtime attorney and friend--not that I especially enjoy funerals, but I really liked the fella in question and wanted to support Dad in this year of so many losses for him. It wasn't until afterwards that I realized how much I had wanted to go so I could see his kids, two of whom I had been friends with in high school; while I'm still not sure if Kathy was there or not, I saw from the program that Gavin gave the eulogy so he was definitely there, and in retrospect, it dawned on me how much I'd wanted to see him because he had been a friend of Sammy's (he was in that big group of smart, funny guys that all ran around together, all of whom I had huge crushes on--Gavin only slightly less than Sammy).
Hopefully they'll both come to the all-1980's reunion we're having next year...the one for which I have yet to register. *slaps self*
Anyhoo, Christmas was okay--not great, not terrible. My sister apologized profusely for having gotten me the US version of Life On Mars and included the receipt, so now I have an excuse to go to Target sometime (one of the main stores I miss from so-called civilization--I tried explaining it to my UK buddy at Twitter as being like a posh, pretentious Wal-Mart).
And because monkeymaniac was kind enough to post an updated photo of DJ at his page, I will now start to try and catch up with my huge backlog of Kitteh Pics...( ici. )

I am now fairly terrified after having checked out the 'My Guests' feature, but am clinging to the fervent hope that most of my flist just has their settings tuned to invisible or come by when they're not logged in, cos otherwise I ain't got clue one what all these other peeps would be doing reading my LJ. O_O
Still, my overall personal terror alert is nicely mitigated by the wonderful responses from tigertale7 and hungryhippo11 to my latest opus, which I began in July but finally sent out tonight. (Sarah, say the word and I'll inflict it on you too.) Ah luves me mah supportive homegirls, yo.
Fairly ouchy from the gym tonight but at least I now can wear the new shorts I was too fat to wear last summer. I also was amused to see that the disturbingly attractive guy there has gotten himself quite the dorky haircut. He remains alarmingly friendly, but I keep reminding myself that it's his job to be friendly, after all.
I also had a Nice Moment With My Angel on the stairmaster; going full-out with Patrick Hernandez's "Born To Be Alive" blasting on my iPod, I realized the words, "It's good to be alive" were repeatedly reverberating in my earphones, and since most Seventies disco reminds me of Jamie, it was like a sudden reminder from him here in the midst of this year's big three losses (my uncle, mom and Sammy--even though he died two years ago, I only found out this year, after all) that I should be grateful to still be here...and lo, so I was. :)
